What the page includes
The top of the page holds the name in large dotted letters on a writing line, headed My name is. Below it are five short prompts: age, favorite color, favorite food, favorite animal, and something the child likes to do. A framed box on the right is for a self-portrait. Three more lines run across the bottom for family, school, and what the child wants to be when they grow up. A child can fill in the lines by writing, by copying an adult’s writing, or by drawing.
Use it in the first weeks of school
An about me page is a simple way to meet a new group of children. The child’s name is traced first, which is the most familiar writing task, and the prompts can be answered with a single word or a drawing. Teachers often collect the pages for a bulletin board or for a book about the class, and parents can use the page at home for a birthday or a school record. For a whole class, make each child’s page from the class list tool and use this page for the back of the first-week pack.
Adapt the prompts to the child
- Pre-readers: read each prompt aloud and let the child draw the answer.
- Emerging writers: accept inventive spelling and one-word answers.
- Confident writers: ask for a full sentence on each line.
- Dual-language learners: let the child answer in the language they know best, and add the English word beside it.
A few safety and display notes
Keep personal details light when sheets will be displayed. A favorite color or animal is fine on a wall, but a home address, a phone number, or a full birth date is better left off. The name field here accepts a single first name and the sheet has no field for contact details. Everything is generated privately in your browser, so the name you type is not sent anywhere.
