Five name tracing generators to try
A useful name sheet depends on the learner, the printer, and whether you are making one page or a class set. These five tools take different approaches.
This roundup is published by TraceTheName and lists our own tool first. It is a guide to publicly documented features, not an independent print-quality test or a paid ranking. Feature pages were checked on 24 September 2026.
TraceTheName
Best for: a quick portrait worksheet or a private class set.
Enter a name to preview a single page, choose dotted, outline, or cursive letters, then print or download a Letter or A4 PDF. The teacher batch tool makes up to 25 individual name PDFs in one ZIP, entirely in the browser.
Consider another tool if: you want landscape pages, bubble letters, or decorative borders; those are not current TraceTheName options.
CreatePrintables
Best for: font variety, landscape sheets, and themed name activities.
Its free original name tool offers repetition, font, color, and orientation controls. The site also has a multi-page name practice pack and other printable activities.
Check before printing: choose the intended font and page orientation, then review the generated preview. See our detailed comparison →
NameTrace
Best for: adjusting learner size and adding worksheet details.
The free name tool lists capitalization, dotted or outline styles, learner levels, row counts, and optional name, date, title, and encouragement fields. It says name generation runs in the browser. A separate 10-page practice pack is paid.
Check before choosing: decide whether its free single-sheet tool or the paid pack matches the activity you need.
Worksheet Zoo
Best for: a fast PDF with few settings, or a ready-made name sheet.
Its free name generator takes a name and downloads a page with a solid example, dashed rows, and handwriting guides. The site also offers blank templates and finished name PDFs.
Check before choosing: the generator states a 14-character input limit; use another tool for a longer name or phrase.
SuperColoring
Best for: detailed worksheet appearance controls.
Its name tracing generator shows settings for repetitions, font and line style, guides, row size, paper format, orientation, and theme. It provides a PDF view.
Check before printing: confirm the selected page format and settings in its preview, especially if a simple name-only sheet is all you need.
How to choose
Make one test page with the name and paper size you actually need. Check letter size, guide spacing, and the blank writing area at 100% print scale. For classroom use, also decide whether one file per child or a single page at a time is easier to distribute.
