Capital D in cursive
Capital D has a slanted stem and a large rounded bowl that curves around from the bottom left. The bottom of the stem and the bowl meet in a small loop.
Lowercase d in cursive
Lowercase d has an oval body like a, with a tall stem rising above the midline. In this model the tall stem is a single stroke rather than a loop, and it ends with an exit stroke at the baseline.
Joining d to other letters
Lowercase d finishes with an exit stroke at the baseline that runs into the next letter. Trace candy to see the connection, then try the word on the blank copy line.
Some school cursive models also add a loop to the tall part of d; others keep it straight. Compare the stem with the learner’s class chart, and compare d with a to see that the only difference is the stem height.
