Longer words call for steadier handwriting
Words such as together, myself, and better are longer than earlier lists, which gives third graders real practice with spacing and letter size. Keep the guidelines on and ask the learner to keep tall letters touching the top line. The handwriting worksheet generator can combine these words with the learner’s own sentences.
Watch for tricky patterns
Third grade words include silent and unusual letter patterns: laugh, light, hurt, eight, warm. Group words by pattern (light and eight share -ght) and trace them together. Pattern groups are easier to remember than a single long list.
Spelling and cursive connections
Many classrooms use these words as spelling lists. Copy a group into the spelling worksheet generator. Third grade is also when many schools introduce cursive writing; trace the same words in script to compare print and cursive forms.
About the list
These are the 41 third grade words from Dolch’s 1936 list. They are a convenient set, not a national standard. If your teacher sends a different list, paste it in.
