Capital Z in cursive
Capital Z has a wavy top bar, a diagonal, and a looped bottom crossed by a short bar.
Lowercase z in cursive
Lowercase z begins with a small curve at the top and then drops below the baseline in a loop, like a small 3 with a tail. It looks very different from print z.
Joining z to other letters
Lowercase z reaches below the baseline, so the join to the next letter climbs back up from below the line. Trace zoo to see the connection, then try the word on the blank copy line.
Many school cursive alphabets also write lowercase z with a below-line loop, but shapes vary. Compare it with the class chart, and with lowercase y and g, which also loop below the baseline.
